Today's "Marriage" Scripture by Jason Hunt *July 10-11, 2010*
Romans 15:5
May God, who gives this patience and encouragement, help you live in complete harmony with each other, as is fitting for followers of Christ Jesus.
The patience and encouragement Paul is referring to here is in regards to our convictions. Earlier in marriage, as couples are still trying to figure out who their spouse is, we often have differences over our convictions. What kind of music is appropriate, what kind of movies and television to watch, which friends and family are good or bad influences. Paul writes in Romans14:23 But if you have doubts about whether or not you should eat something, you are sinning if you go ahead and do it. For you are not following your convictions. If you do anything you believe is not right, you are sinning. What God doesn't want is for us to compromise or force our convictions on others that we are in relationship with and have influence on. God's desire is to be patient, and encourage them to seek His will.
Romans 15:7 Therefore, accept each other just as Christ has accepted you so that God will be given glory. When we are accepting of one another there is much greater unity and harmony in our marriages. The environment for influence, conviction, repentance, and growth is created to God's glory.
Lord, praise You for being so patient with us. Thank You for accepting us and cleansing us with Your Blood. Lead us to have Jesus' heart for His children that You would be given all glory and honour. In Jesus' Name. Amen
