Today's Scripture *September 16, 2010*
1 Kings 13: 15-19
Then he said to the man of God, “Come home with me and eat some food.”
“No, I cannot,” he replied. “I am not allowed to eat or drink anything here in this place. For the Lord gave me this command: ‘You must not eat or drink anything while you are there, and do not return to Judah by the same way you came.’”
But the old prophet answered, “I am a prophet, too, just as you are. And an angel gave me this command from the Lord: ‘Bring him home with you so he can have something to eat and drink.’” But the old man was lying to him. So they went back together, and the man of God ate and drank at the prophet’s home.
When God clearly tells us what we should or shouldn't do--we should never deviate from that.
Often people will tell us what we should do; some may even have good intentions or say the right words that tickle our ears and make us change our course. People may even give us advice or direction using the Name of God to convince you. But friends--that is why it is so important to know the Word of God and to be walking in relationship with Christ yourself. God will never tell you to do anything that is contrary to His Word. God clearly told this man of God not to 'eat or drink anything'. But because this old prophet lied and said God had told him to bring him back to his place to eat and drink--he didn't question or hesitate to believe his words..after all, he was a man of God.
When God tells you "No" ... The answer is NO. When God tells you to "Go".. Then get going! Look to God's Word for direction. Be in prayer. And seek His direction for your life. May our paths be in line with God's Word for us. Remember--God is not a man that He would change His mind!
God is not a man, so he does not lie. He is not human, so he does not change his mind. Has he ever spoken and failed to act? Has he ever promised and not carried it through? Numbers 23: 19
Thank You God for desiring a one on one relationship with us, Your children.
May we know Your Word! May we look to You for guidance and answers.
Help us to be devoted in prayer and to knowing Your Word.
Surround us with wise God-fearing people who will encourage us, correct us, pray with us and help us stay on the path that You have placed before us. Thank You for Your Word! Thank You for being our ever present help. In Jesus' Name, Amen..
