Today's "Marriage" Scripture by Jason Hunt *October 2-3, 2010*
Romans 8:28
And we know that God causes everything to work togetherfor the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.
Imagine if Jesus had sent out His disciples prior to training them. Or if they had been impatient and too immature to sit under the appropriate teaching. Would they have had the faith, knowledge, trust and equipping to answer Jesus' command to 'go and make disciples of all the nations'?
Matthew 28: 18 Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations,baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.
How often do we rush into situations feeling like we are called to it or desire to be involved in that calling only to have it all come crashing down in discouragement and pain. In His sovereignty sometimes God wants us to sit and wait, Psalm 46:10 “Be still, and know that I am God!. We must trust His timing and plan.
The work God does in our lives is much like that of our jobs. If I desire a promotion or to be trusted with more responsibility I need to be trained, trusted and tested. I can't efficiently lead others if I am not ready for it and need to trust those making the decision to know best. God isn't saying 'you aren't good enough'. To paraphrase Jeremiah 29:11 He says, 'I love you!, you just aren't there yet, trust Me, I have good plans for your future and don't lose hope'
God, You are our only hope, thank You that we can surrender to Your will. May we become more and more like Jesus and pray Luke 22:42 “Father, if you are willing, please take this cup of suffering away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine.”
