Today's Scripture *January 22, 2009*
2 Corinthians 1: 21-22
It is God who enables us, along with you, to stand firm for Christ. He has commissioned us, and he has identified us as his own by placing the Holy Spirit in our hearts as the first installment that guarantees everything he has promised us.
The Holy Spirit guarantees that we belong to God and will receive all His benefits (Ephesians 1: 13-14 And now you Gentiles have also heard the truth, the Good News that God saves you. And when you believed in Christ, he identified you as his own by giving you the Holy Spirit, whom he promised long ago. The Spirit is God’s guarantee that he will give us the inheritance he promised and that he has purchased us to be his own people. He did this so we would praise and glorify him.)
The Holy Spirit guarantees that salvation is ours now, and that we will receive so much more when Christ returns. The great comfort and power the Holy Spirit gives us in this life is a foretaste or down payment ("first installment") of the benefits of our eternal life in God's presence. With the privilege of belonging to God comes the responsibility of identifying ourselves as His faithful servants. Don't be ashamed to let others know that you are His.
We are so grateful, Father God, for Your saving grace.
Thank You that we are called children of God!
May we live our lives listening to Your Word, seeking Your Face, and being responsible Christians who are Your faithful servants.
