1 Corinthians 13:11
When I was a child, I spoke and thought and reasoned as a child. But when I grew up, I put away childish things.
For a short time I owned a game console, I was naive enough to believe it wouldn't monopolize my time. Late nights would become VERY late nights, short games would become VERY long games. 'Just let me finish this level' became --'You go on without me'. April was going to bed without me and I was often too tired for work, prayer, study and even intimacy. I needed my Bible for a small group study and couldn't remember where I had put it, when I found it; it was covered in dust. I sold the game console and the games and vowed never to have a game system in my house again.
Even though Paul is referring to spiritual maturity and eventually not needing spiritual gifts, ironically it is things like video games, excessive time spent on sports and leisure and other 'innocent' distractions that keep us from studying and learning God's heart.
Lord, help us to focus on the things of You. May we guide and direct our families in the maturity of faith that comes only from a deep relationship with You.
