Today's Scripture *May 11, 2009*
Ephesians 5: 31-33
As the Scriptures say, “A man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one.” This is a great mystery, but it is an illustration of the way Christ and the church are one. So again I say, each man must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.
The union of husband and wife merges two persons in such a way that little can affect one without also affecting the other. Oneness in marriage does not mean losing your personality in the personality of the other. Instead, it means caring for your spouse as you care for yourself, learning to anticipate his or her needs, helping the other person become all he or she can be. The creation story tells of God's plan that husband and wife should be one. (Genesis 2:24 This explains why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one .), and Jesus also referred to this plan. (Matthew 19: 4-6 “Haven't you read the Scriptures?” Jesus replied. “They record that from the beginning ‘God made them male and female.’ And he said, ‘This explains why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one.’ Since they are no longer two but one, let no one split apart what God has joined together.” )
Father, we thank You for the union of marriage. May we love, honor, and support our husbands, and wives.
Help us to see Your design for marriage and to have Your understanding and heart for one another.
In the Matchless Name of Jesus, Amen..
Bless you!
