Today's "Marriage" Scripture by Jason Hunt *May 30, 2009*
Jeremiah 31:32
This covenant will not be like the one I made with their ancestors when I took them by the hand and brought them out of the land of Egypt. They broke that covenant, though I loved them as a husband loves his wife,” says the Lord.
God sets the highest of standards for us husbands here. He compares the way He loves the people of Israel to the way He expects us to love our wives. We hear it again in Ephesians 5:25- Husbands love your wives just as Christ loved the church and gave His life for her. This is agape love, the kind of love that can only be given when we submit totally to the Lord. God shows us that He loved Israel even when they broke the Covenant He had made with them. God loves us like this because He sees the redeemable qualities we all posses. Only in Christ can we love like this. When we do, God can and will restore us and our relationships.
Father in heaven, we praise You and thank You for loving us so very much. Give us the strength to love like You do. We need more of You to be able to love the way You love. Please give us the ability to see in our spouses the qualities and potential You see in them, that we would love them for the glory of the Lover of our souls.
In Jesus' name.
Amen.
Marriage is our society's most pro-child institution. If you want kids to do well, then you want marriage to do well.
