Today's "Marriage Scripture " By Jason Hunt *July 25, 2009* (Jul 25, 2009)
Prayer Request:
1 Corinthians 6:18-20 Run from sexual sin! No other sin so clearly affects the body as this one does. For sexual immorality is a sin against your own body. Don't you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body.
I have two teen aged girls living under my roof. Each with varying degrees of questions, fears, opinions, misconceptions and knowledge of marriage, sex and dating.
Paul's instruction seems to have some urgency to it. RUN!
"But he loves me; we are getting married; it's my body; everyone else is doing it; it's none of your business". ..all questions asked by some people.
Our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, until we reach the maturity level of one who is following the prompting's of the Holy Spirit in regard to whom we share our temples with we clearly shouldn't be entertaining offers. As parents we are responsible for training, teaching, correcting and disciplining our children so that they will honour the price God paid for them. A few suggestions;
- Proverbs 22:6 - Direct your children onto the right path, and when they are older, they will not leave it.
Start when they are knee high to a grass hopper. Teach your children when they are young that you will work with them in choosing their spouse.
- Use Scripture in all of your teaching, not only can they not disagree with God but they gain the necessary knowledge and understanding to know why we make those decisions
- Pray with and for them at a young age that God will provide the right person at the right time for them. They will be submitted to trusting that God has their spouse hand picked.
- Be involved. Know who your children are hanging out with, what they are doing and when. Children ( even adult children sometimes ) need accountability and restraints.
- You must be vigilant. Protect your children, even from themselves. You as a parent are commanded to do so.
- Ecclesiastes 4:12 - A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken.
Work in unity in Christ. As part of a three cord strand you are much stronger and can see more. When there is a division the enemy is given a foot hold.
In the spirit of Paul's admonition, don't waste any time. Find out what God wants for your children, pray for wisdom and understanding. Talk to your children NOW and most importantly; pray, pray, pray.
Dear Lord of creation, thank you for the air in our lungs. Our very lives are a gift from You. Guide us and direct us Father as we instruct our children in the way they should go. Protect their purity Lord from the deception of the enemy, protect them from their own evil desires. Cleanse us all Father with the shed blood of Christ that our purity would be restored.
In Jesus' name.
Amen.
