Today's "Marriage" Scripture by Jason Hunt *September 19, 2009*

Malachi 2:14-16
You cry out, “Why doesn't the Lord accept my worship?” I’ll tell you why! Because the Lord witnessed the vows you and your wife made when you were young. But you have been unfaithful to her, though she remained your faithful partner, the wife of your marriage vows.
Didn’t the Lord make you one with your wife? In body and spirit you are his.And what does he want? Godly children from your union. So guard your heart; remain loyal to the wife of your youth. “For I hate divorce!” says the Lord, the God of Israel. “To divorce your wife is to overwhelm her with cruelty,” says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies. “So guard your heart; do not be unfaithful to your wife.”

The Lord holds the bond between a man and a wife very highly. He asks us to 'guard our hearts'. A stray look, a moment of fantasy, a vile or sinful memory; that's all it takes sometimes for a man to take his eyes off the prize. From that point the Lord doesn't pay much attention to you. He doesn't even accept our worship if we are unfaithful.
Now most of us are thinking, that's not me, I have never been unfaithful. Yet Jesus tells us Matthew 5:27-28 even when we look lustfully at another woman we have committed adultery in our hearts. We must discipline ourselves to keep our eyes, ears, thoughts and hearts focused on the one that God gave us. If your flesh is leading you to sin...repent. God is a gracious and forgiving God. He will restore your passion for your wife as you choose her daily. Let your worship be acceptable to Him.

Dear Lord, we are a fallen, sinful people. Guard our hearts against the temptations of the enemy. Keep our hearts pure Lord. Bring man and wife together again in the perfect love that You designed for marriage, that it will bring You glory.
In Jesus' name.
Amen.
