Today's "Marriage' Scripture by Jason Hunt *October 3, 2009*

Genesis 2: 23
“At last!” the man exclaimed.

“This one is bone from my bone,
      And flesh from my flesh!
   She will be called ‘woman,’
Because she was taken from ‘man.’”

I have had the ultimate privilege of doing some premarital prep with a few couples. On their wedding days the groom was exclaiming "At last!" similarly to how Adam was. We have all been there at some point, sweaty palms...sweaty everything, heart's beating out of our chests, eye's fixed on our bride. The day has arrived, God has delivered the groom's wife. His helper, his queen, his equal heir to the throne.
Obviously God gave us sex to 'fill the earth' (Genesis 1:28). I believe in God's genius that He intended sex for so much more than that split second miracle that we are all conceived in. God purposed that sex be the driving force to put our love into action. Adam claimed Eve as his own, his exclusively because she was given to him by God...no, not by process of elimination. Imagine what life would have been like for Adam, toil in the garden all day, tend to the needs of the animals, fellowship with the Lord, all the while watching his bride. Remaining pure and focusing on his 'woman', this was before the fig leaves came into play.
If we fast forward to today, God's design hasn't changed. There is just that much more sin in the world. Adam had the benefit of not living in such a sexually charged society and he still found a way to invite shame into his marriage. We must desire our wives as the one and only object of our affections if we stand a chance at success against the T.V. Commercials, magazine covers, bill boards, and those poor sisters who have never had anyone tell them they don't need to dress that way to get a real man's affection. Before Christian men can take a collective stand against impurity we must take a stand in our own marriages. I challenge you all to make your wife your "Eve" this week. Stare at her, admire her, appreciate her, but only her! Remove the apples from the tree and establish your pure marriage bed. When you look at your wife this week; declare 'At last!' like the eagerly expectant groom that you once were.

It's Saturday night, are you putting a smile on your wife's face that she will praise God in the morning?

Lord, we praise You and thank You for our spouses. We claim victory in the Holy name of Jesus over lust, deception, distraction and sloth. Put a desire in our hearts Lord for our spouses. Don't allow us to give Your glory to the enemy and the god's of this world. Fix our hearts on You Lord and our desires on our spouses

In Jesus' name,
Amen.
