Today's Scripture *October 6, 2009*
Joshua 24: 16-18
The people replied, “We would never abandon the Lord and serve other gods. For the Lord our God is the one who rescued us and our ancestors from slavery in the land of Egypt. He performed mighty miracles before our very eyes. As we traveled through the wilderness among our enemies, he preserved us. It was the Lord who drove out the Amorites and the other nations living here in the land. So we, too, will serve the Lord, for he alone is our God.”
All the people boldly claimed that they would never forsake the Lord. But they did not keep that promise. Very soon God would charge them with breaking their contract with Him (Judges 2: 2-3 For your part, you were not to make any covenants with the people living in this land; instead, you were to destroy their altars. But you disobeyed my command. Why did you do this? So now I declare that I will no longer drive out the people living in your land. They will be thorns in your sides, and their gods will be a constant temptation to you.” ).
Talk is cheap. It is easy to say we will follow God, but it is much more important to live like it.
Yes, the nation followed God through Joshua's lifetime, a great tribute to Joshua's faith in God and his powerful godly leadership.
God, we don't just want to say the right words that will tickle peoples' ears!
We want to stir by way of example how to follow God!
We want our lives to speak volumes about our commitment to You and Your Kingdom.
May we daily renew our commitment to Your Word! Our commitment to Your ways!
In Jesus' Name, Amen..
Be blessed!
