Today's "Marriage" Scripture by Jason Hunt *October 24, 2009*
Genesis 2:24
This explains why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one.
Most folks read this passage and think God is talking about sex. They are right. But sex is only a piece of the puzzle.
Sex is a blessing, a gift from The Almighty. It is only blessed in the confines of marriage. When a man and wife come together in unity they experience unity not only in the physical but in the emotional and spiritual.
The unity of a marriage is the critical factor in it's success. It is in the strength of a couples unity that they become a team in God's presence. Ecclesiastes 4:12 ...a three cord strand is not easily broken. God didn't say 'and the two will dine out together' or 'and the two will go to Blockbuster together'. In the marriage union we are commanded to meet each others needs. When we do; a seed of influence and harmony is planted. A trust is established in the evening that becomes very important during the daytime hours when a couple has to do life. If a man and wife don't connect in the bedroom that same disconnect will exist every where else. Rather than agreeing on the intricacies of life; there is anger, bitterness and eventually division. This is the enemies foothold on a family. Your children are watching how you treat one another. They will grow up confident or afraid, accepting or judging, at peace or angry, alone or loved, content or miserable. You choose.
Lord of Creation, Author and Finisher of our faith; praise You for the the gift of unity. Thank You Lord, that it is Your intention to be half of a whole. That You would create another human being who needs us, wants us, protects us, supports us, challenges us and prays for us. May we glorify You in our marriages.
