Today's "Marriage" Scripture by Jason Hunt *November 14, 2009*
Colossians 3:10-11
Put on your new nature, and be renewed as you learn to know your Creator and become like him. In this new life, it doesn't matter if you are a Jew or a Gentile, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbaric, uncivilized, slave, or free. Christ is all that matters, and he lives in all of us.
Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.
Have you ever spent time with someone who swears a lot and consequently drop a few colorful pronouns yourself? Ever been around a very negative person and start complaining with them? Have you been around that joyous goofy soul who just loves to make everyone laugh? How about that miserable person, the one you want to avoid. Seems like they just bring everyone around them down. I have been each of these and more. I set the tone in my house. If I am grumpy, my wife gets grumpy, my daughter becomes the target of misplaced anger. If I am depressed, there is a cloud over my head that makes me look like Eeyore. My wife gets down and my daughter feels alone. Do you see where this is going? God has been showing me lately just how much influence I have on my girls. If I believe the Word of God to be true ( and I do ) than .. The joy of the Lord is your strength!” Nehemiah 8:10
I have been focusing on the fact that Christ is all that matters, and He lives in all of us. My finances don't define me, nor my job, my house, or my car. Not even my personal appearance. When we live in that freedom it is so much easier to have tenderhearted mercy, to be kind, humble, gentle and have patience with our families. John 8:36 So if the Son sets you free, you are truly free.
Father of freedom and grace, You deserve all glory, honor, and praise. Lord; free us all from the things of this world. Let us set our eyes on You, Jesus, for You are all that matters. Help us to be known for our tender hearts.
