Today's "Marriage" Scripture by Jason Hunt *March 26, 2010*
Ecclesiastes 10:10
Using a dull ax requires great strength, so sharpen the blade. That’s the value of wisdom; it helps you succeed.
It can be exhausting trying to get through to someone who won't listen. And frustrating and often painful for the recipient of a message from an unskilled messenger. As leaders, husbands & fathers we require refining grace from those who we have dealt with along the way.
The metaphor 'sharpen the blade' requires some understanding in itself. We must provide a blade - us. The Lord needs willing participants in order to do His work in us. To provide the 'rub' we need a sharpening stone. We must invite wise people around us to speak into our lives, correct us, and guide us through God's Word. To sharpen iron with iron or stone we need water to reduce friction. This is where we need to provide the truth in love. As always, it is said best in God's own Words; Ecclesiastes 12:9-10 Keep this in mind: The Teacher was considered wise, and he taught the people everything he knew. He listened carefully to many proverbs, studying and classifying them. The Teacher sought to find just the right words to express truths clearly.
Father, we thank You for Your wisdom. We give You praise and glory that You would gift us with wisdom. Make us ply-able but strong, direct but gentle, and firm but fair. Guide us in leading our households, families and Your body.
In Jesus' name.
Amen..
