Today's "Marriage" Scripture by Jason Hunt *April 9, 2010* (Apr 9, 2010)
Prayer Request:
Joshua 1:6-7
“Be strong and courageous, for you are the one who will lead these people to possess all the land I swore to their ancestors I would give them. Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the instructions Moses gave you. Do not deviate from them, turning either to the right or to the left. Then you will be successful in everything you do.
When I was a kid I used to play a lot of sports, we would ask 'who wants to be captain?' and those two kids would be responsible for picking teams. No one ever wanted to be captain, for if they choose poorly they would suffer the entire game. Their own team would ridicule them and ask 'why did you make that pick'
Nothing changes, as leaders of even just our own homes we are always under scrutiny. So many decisions to make, so much at stake all the time. Everyone wants a piece of you, your family, your children, your job, your friends, the church and the enemy. To carry that burden will be a man's demise. Matthew 11:30 For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light. Many men carry too much burden for too long. They battle alcoholism, drug addiction, porn addiction and depression as a result of that frustration.
Joshua receives some great encouragement from God. God affirms Joshua as His chosen leader. Two times in the first chapter of Joshua we read 'Be strong and courageous' and another time with even more emphasis 'Be strong and very courageous' God then tells Joshua to obey all of His instructions given through Moses, not to deviate from them, looking to the right or the left. We must keep our eyes on God, maintain integrity, purity and be disciplined in our prayer time. God's encouragement to Joshua was that he would be successful in everything he did.
If you are struggling in your marriage, things just don't seem to work like they once did, peace has become strife and love has become bitterness; don't lose hope. Turn your eyes to God. No matter how far right or left you have turned, God can get any situation back on the track. Love is the most powerful force known to man. So 'Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the instructions Moses gave you. Do not deviate from them, turning either to the right or to the left. Then you will be successful in everything you do.
Lord, let Your faithful promises rule our hearts. Psalm 37:23-24 The Lord directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives.Though they stumble, they will never fall, for the Lord holds them by the hand.' Lift our heads Father, make us strong and very courageous. Remove the fear of falling with the knowledge that we are in Your hands. Praise You for being You.
In Jesus' Name.
Amen.
