Today's "Marriage" Scripture by Jason Hunt *May 14, 2010*
2 Corinthians 12:8-9
Three different times I begged the Lord to take it away. Each time He said, ''My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.'' So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me.
Relationships are very interesting, so many little details and intricacies. If I quoted to someone that I had a 'thorn in my side' they would know I had a nagging ailment or issue. Paul gives us a great encouragement here in dealing with others. Paul goes on to say in verse 10 of 2 Corinthians 12; That's why I take pleasure in my weaknesses, and in the insults, hardships, persecutions, and troubles that I suffer for Christ. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
The strength of Christ is in the fact that He chose to be submitted, humiliated and broken. All characteristics that the world sees as weak. Yet the characteristics He exemplified for us were the very same that gave Him victory over death and our sins forever.
When we can display the same weakness that Paul refers to in our relationships, we give way to the strength of Christ. Don't allow pride to swell up that you can't admit fault, that you won't share your short comings. Boast about those things that you will also have the opportunity to say; despite those things God has graced me with a wonderful marriage, obedient children and rich friendships. Lets give God His glory through our weaknesses. It is under those conditions that His power works best.
Thank you Lord for the thorn in our sides. Keep us humble, Lord, that we can allow You to be strong. Father, even so much that we would be excited to see what You will do in our weakness. For Your glory, honor and praise.
In Jesus' name.
Amen
