Today's "Marriage" Scripture by Jason Hunt *June 5 & 6, 2010*

Romans 7:23-25

But there is another power within me that is at war with my mind. This power makes me a slave to the sin that is still within me. Oh, what a miserable person I am! Who will free me from this life that is dominated by sin and death? Thank God! The answer is in Jesus Christ our Lord. So you see how it is: In my mind I really want to obey God’s law, but because of my sinful nature I am a slave to sin.

This is an extremely powerful scripture as Paul transparently reveals his misery in trying to live righteously.

Each time we sin the enemy begins whispering the lies of doubt and insignificance - "you aren't good enough"; "God can't use you"; "You've disqualified yourself from God's plans for you". Just as Jesus did in the desert we need to arm ourselves with God's Word to not only keep us from sin but to rebuke the enemy and his lies each time we leave ourselves vulnerable.

We have known this misery all too often. A mans mind is technical and precise--facts are law. As a husband and father I am regularly confronted with the circumstances we live in attempting to dictate my level of faith. The war within rages on sometimes for weeks or months. The discouragement that it can bring is much like Paul's misery. But alas " Thank God! The answer is in Jesus Christ our Lord."

We have a Saviour who has paid the price for us. Fill your minds with what He tells you in the Word. Psalm 94:19 When doubts filled my mind,your comfort gave me renewed hope and cheer.

Thank You God that the answer is in Jesus! What a generous Father we have. Lift our spirits Lord as we run this race. Don't let the circumstances and consequences of our mistakes dictate our faith in You.

Give us the strength to believe based on Your Word, Your promise, and Your merciful grace.
