Working Out Our Salvation

“So then, my beloved, just as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your salvation with fear and trembling; for it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure. Do all things without grumbling or disputing: that you may prove yourselves to be blameless and innocent, children of God above reproach in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you appear as lights in the world.” Philippians 2:12-15

This morning as we were driving out of a restaurant parking lot the Lord spoke to me that Ruby and I needed to check our attitude about her golf cart. Ruby has a golf cart with a small pickup box on the back that she uses in looking after our place. It is ideal for picking up trash. We have a lot of trees on the place that produce a lot of broken limbs. The engine froze up on the cart a few months back and we had the company that we purchased the cart from a few years back to overhaul the engine.

They returned the cart and it did fine for about a week and then it became hard to start. After the Lord spoke to me this morning I realized that it was pretty much my intention to take the cart back and kinda throw a fit about spending $1,200 for them to overhaul the golf cart and it not running like it should. As I drove away from the restaurant this morning the above passage of scripture came to my mind. I realized that it was pretty much my intention to go and do some grumbling and most likely a little disputing with the owner of the golf cart company.

“Arise, shine; for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you. For behold, darkness will cover the earth, and deep darkness the peoples; But the Lord will rise upon you, and His glory will appear upon you. And people will come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your rising.” Isaiah 60:1-3

Praise God for the awesome salvation that He has given us. It is His desire that we go forth into a dark world and bring His light into every situation that we might encounter. To me this is what Paul is saying when he tells us to work out our salvation with fear and trembling. Lord Jesus, thank you for looking after each of us this week as we go forth into a dark world to demonstrate your Light. Thank you for trusting us with this Light and declaring that we are now the Light of the world. We give you all the glory for causing us to be lit up. Amen and Amen.

“Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong. And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how high, and how deep his love is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.” Ephesians 3:17-19
