The Need For Unity In The Body Of Christ Part 1

Sectarianism divides the Body Of Christ, which the Enemy uses to weaken and make it ineffective

Good morning everyone. As you all know, I am Pastor Robert McConkey of Gennao Anothen Ekklesia (Born Again Church Or The Church Of The Way. Today's will message The Need for Unity In The Body Of Christ, and this morning will be part 1 of this important message. So let us begin.

Before we open our Bibles, to the passage that pertains to the message, in the culture of the US, everywhere we people from public schools to even political offices, attempting to create inclusive groups or parties, to the point where if someone is on the outside of them, then he or she is rejected. That is what appears to be the case, everywhere we look in our culture. And though in our culture, it may work in secular circles, it doesn't and shouldn't work, when it comes to our church or specifically in the Body Of Christ. And when this is witnessed among people who are supposed to be Christians, is when this gets to be a big problem.

For you all to understand what I am talking about, please open you Bibles to 1 Corinthians 1:10-13 (and I  will be again using my Interlinear Hebrew Greek English Bible, but you can use your own translation). "Now, I exhort you, brothers, through the name of Jesus Christ that you all say the same thing, and there be no divisions among you; but you be of the same and in the same judgment. For, my brothers, concerning you it was shown to me by those of Chloe that are strifes among you. But I say this, that each of you says, 'Truly I am of Paul, and I of Apollos, and I of Cephas (Peter), and I of Christ.' Has Christ been divided?"

Here I am going to stop. In this passage of the first chapter of Paul's first letter to the church at Corinthians, he addressed a problem with many of the Corinthians in it, that is apparently plaguing a good deal of denominational churches today-division and disunity among believers. This is very clear, right after his lengthy greeting to the Corinthian church.

This because in verse 10, he had to tell them stay united as one, not in their doctrine, but also in their decision making as members of the Corinthian church, and not to be divisive. The reason he had to, is because this serious problem was beginning to occur in it.  He had just established it, and left it what in he believed was in good standing, and was at the time in Ephesus  and had just returned, when in 11 he receives, what I believe, to be the most disturbing news from Chloe via her messengers, that any church leader, could hear--that there was what he called strife among the members of it, which could possibly divide them.

Strife is in my view, is the biggest cause of division in any denominational church.  And it seems to be happening in good number of them. When strifes occur, then members of whatever denominational church they are apart of, become divisive and then they at some point, they either leave to start one that fits their views, or a split forms within it, even when they remain.

Then later Paul discovered why they are this way, in verse 12.  Why? Because they aren't in complete agreement on who they are followers of, so they have formed their own exclusive Christian groups. with one following Paul, the other following Apollos, and another following Peter, and still another following Christ.

I am going to stop here, for now, and will continue with the part of this message later.
