SO NEAR YET SO FAR AWAY
Your sky at night is like diamonds spread out
on black velvet cloth.
To know you are just behind that blackness
makes me feel that you are near.
Yet, the span of space makes
you seem so far away.
Your sky during the day shows
your royal color of blue with
your pure light showing though
those puffy white clouds
that drews me to you.
To know that Jesus was
caught up in the glory of those clouds,
lets me know that He is near.
Yet, from this earthly place as I am
looking up, He seem so far away.
When I pray,as I look up at my ceiling.
It seems so close. Yet I feel
that you are near.
But when I think how high
my prayer must go,
you seem so far, far away.
Thank you God for your grace
which through Jesus Christ
you have made us so near.
Yet, to us sinners,
you are so far,far away.
Remember, oh Lord,
that for you a thousand
years is as a thousand days.
A thousand days seems so near,
but a thousand years is far,far away.
The time of the end was near
for all those who served you.
Yet to those who ran the race
to be in your kingdom,
it was far, far away.
Many have prayed "Thy kingdom come,"
wishing it was near.
But our fear and doubt
wishes it far, far away.
We are frail in this life;
we don't want it to end.
But,by believing in Jesus
and his resurrection makes you
not so far away, yes you are near to us.
So come, oh God.
Pull back the black of space
and the blue of skies
and the clouds that stole our savior away.
Be near to us God---not faraway.
Amen
